Being a Good Neighbour
In late 2019 Earbus Foundation was asked to assist in recovery efforts on the Indonesian island of Lombok by supporting children with ear disease and hearing issues. In January this year CEO Paul Higginbotham made a reconnaissance and familiarisation trip to the orphanage to assess need and resourcing.
The aid project will assess and treat ear disease in the first instance and set up support for those children who need hearing aids. The subsequent focus will be on training and mentoring local staff and building community capacity so that Earbus Foundation’s role will become more of a consultancy and advisory one.
The initial visit of the Earbus Team to Lombok was planned for April school holidays but the unfolding and uncertain impact of CoVid 19 coronavirus means this will need to be re-scheduled. We still hope to visit in 2020 to get the triaging and treatment underway and set up data tracking systems to measure improvement and outcomes.
